In India, farmers often suffer due to middlemen, lack of price transparency, and limited access to market information. Many also face language and technology barriers.
Gaon Bazaar was inspired by the need to empower farmers with a simple, fair, and accessible digital marketplace that works in their own language.
What It Does
Gaon Bazaar is a farmer‑to‑buyer marketplace with the following features:
For Farmers
- List crops using voice input in Hindi or Hinglish
- Get AI‑based fair price suggestions
- Verify crop quality through freshness checks
- Publish listings directly to the marketplace
For Buyers
- Browse crops by category, price, and quality
- Compare prices and freshness scores
- Add items to cart and place orders directly with farmers
Government Support
- Information on government schemes and subsidies
- Training programs and agricultural updates
How We Built It
- Frontend: React with a responsive UI and English/Hindi language toggle
- Backend: FastAPI handling crop listings, price prediction, quality checks, and orders
- Voice Input: Web Speech API supporting Hindi and Hinglish
- Storage: Temporary in‑memory storage for rapid prototyping
