Inspiration
It's difficult and sometimes isolating for children to take multiple medications every day while at school. To help make it easier for them to stick to the schedule and get well, we decided to make a device that would make taking medications painless and easy.
What it does
Up to 4 different medications are loaded by a parent, and a physician enters in a medicine schedule. At the appropriate time, the device alerts the patient that it's time to take a pill and dispenses the appropriate medication.
How we built it
This project used a combination of web and embedded programming technologies, as well as significant hardware such as 5 servo motors and a couple dozen fabricated parts.
Challenges we ran into
Fitting all the electronics in a small box was a difficult task in such a short period of time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The device fully works in under 24 hours!
What we learned
We built significant skills in rapid prototyping across software and hardware.
What's next for Gamified medicine dispenser for children
Next up is the actual gamification mechanism - a cute digital character that kids can raise and build affinity with as they take their medications on a daily basis.
