Inspiration
Our inspiration for GameStock came from a shared passion for gaming and financial literacy. We found it hard to begin the journey of stocks without digging so deep into the web. As most of us are new to the world of stocks, all the information online can seem overwhelming. This is where GameStock comes in. It has a simplistic interface that allows users to search and explore stocks from their favorite video game companies while staying informed about the latest trends and news too.
What it does
GameStock is a web platform created to help users invest in video game stocks. It equips users with information about various gaming companies, their stock prices, highs, lows, and even news! This helps promote financial literacy to users and helps them make informed investment decisions.
How we built it
We built GameStock using a combination of:
- Next.js for the frontend,
- Typescript for type safety,
- Tailwind CSS for styling and design,
- APIs for backend services
This game-changing platform integrates real-time stock data using different APIs to provide a user-friendly interface for seamless interaction and navigation.
Challenges we ran into
Real-time Data Integration: Incorporating real-time stock and making sure that the data is accurate posed a significant challenge for us. We had to implement efficient data fetching and processing techniques to make sure the GameStock experience was smooth for every user.
UI/UX Design: Designing a responsive and intuitive user interface that helps fill the gap between gamers and investors requires a lot of careful planning, testing, and iterative development.
Backend Integration: Connecting the front end with backend posed challenges, especially with handling API calls efficiently. We faced rate limits that required careful management and optimization of data fetch processes.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Robust User Experience: We successfully created a platform that offers a seamless user experience, from browsing stocks to detailed company insights and investment opportunities.
Scalable Architecture: Implementing a scalable architecture using Next.js and API allowed us to get accurate data.
Effective Time Management, Rapid Learning and Adaptation, and Problem-Solving Under Pressure: Despite some of our team being fairly new to web development, our team successfully built GameStock within the challenging timeframe of 24 hours. This accompaniment showcases our dedication, ability to work as a team, and effective communication.
What we learned
Team Collaboration: Working as a team on a complex project taught us the importance of effective communication and task delegation within a group setting.
Technical Skills: We improved our skills in front-end development with Next.js, backend integration, and management with real-time data using APIs.
User-Centered Design: Being weary of user needs and preferences helped us design our website and we made it a simplistic vibe to enhance user engagement and not make it too complicated, especially for those new to stocks.
What's next for GameStock
Enhanced Features: We plan to expand GameStock by adding more advanced features such as personalized stock recommendations based on user preferences and investment history.
Community Engagement: Implementing community features such as forums and expert insights to foster a community of gamers and investors sharing knowledge and experiences.
Mobile Application: Developing a mobile application version of GameStock to reach a broader audience and provide access to stock information on the go.
