Inspiration

Being a gamer, passionate about sandbox/building/a-rpg games, I find myself and others looking for buildings, character builds, blueprints to either add to my game or just for inspiration. And conversely I often want to share something I accomplished for a widespread need and I can't find a place where to engage and share my stuff. Games often have a community project that covers some needs, but are scattered and diverse.

What it does

Enter GameHub. A centralized place to allow gamers of ANY game to find their home. Can't you find the game you're playing or the thing you want to share? Just request it, eventually add the reasons why the game should be supported (mostly games where sharing something in the community space makes sense), and we'll add the game and the creation type you'll need.

How we built it

We build it with bolt, mostly, in the contest of the world's largest hackathon. Tech stack includes: React Supabase Tailwind

Challenges we ran into

First thing was the fact that every game holds very different things that eventually can be shared. In sandbox building games there are often things like blueprints, buildings, entire save files. But also these few things change among different games. Not to count different type of games, where it makes sense to share completely different things. So we crafted a dynamic system where we can assemble what the users really need, with the exact details and diversity at need.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I really like the dynamic admin I came up with. It started as just another admin site, but quickly I turned that into the personal area, and hand crafted the needed admin panel to create dynamic types, with suggestion, inline onboarding and help.

What we learned

I learned that apparently simple ideas can turn into something more convoluted. And it provides a great lesson and inspiration for something with a greater impact.

What's next for GamesHub

For now the platform is ready and free to share everything. But at some point we'd like to introduce the possibility for users to sell their creations. There's also a copilotkit integration waiting at the door, to make the form filling more interesting.
