Inspiration

This was inspired by my sister and late night gaming sessions or early releases from work when all my usual gaming friends are not online to play with me but I still want to do some competitive play. However, I know that players can sometimes be a bit toxic in the competitive sphere or sometimes there are trolls, so it would be incredible if there was a means to contact players who want to play the way I like to play or fill the roles compatible with mine. Thus, the idea of FiGa (Find Gamers) came about.

What it does

This app is a review platform that holds users data and their respective reviews from other users. This allows for users to see what other player's experiences with this gamer is like, and hopefully encourage accountability and sportsmanship behavior. And less solo queueing.

How we built it

This app was fully built in Unity. The C# was written using Rider. The databasing is currently through local json creation and management.

Challenges we ran into

Coming up with an idea to stick with was difficult, I have changed project ideas twice. I happened to jam my finger during the duration of the hackathon so I had to type with primarily my left hand. There was also challenges with platform specific bugs;things that worked on editor did not work on device.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am pretty proud of what I accomplished despite having a jammed finger. Development was a bit slower but I still managed to build the systems I wanted to. I was also good about managing scope creep to prioritize finish systems without just having a lot of not working parts.

What we learned

I learned to prioritize making things work before making things pretty. I learned that I have to make special functions to call items on the Android platform and I didn't manage to fix all of them in the build. I learned about gaming APIs and their legal usage in terms of privacy and their hosted links. I didn't manage to use any but I learned what they are.

What's next for Figa (Find Gamers)

My whole plan included having a hosted database for user data and creation to store reviews. I would like to include different games under each user as selections to see different reviews for different games. Plus it would be cool to add this to a working app with a gaming user base as a reputation gage.
