Inspiration
I play on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, and my collection was scattered across three apps that never talk to each other. I couldn't answer simple questions: Do I already own this? Which version? Is it cheaper on another store? How close am I to the platinum? GamePanda started as the app I wanted for myself: one library for every game I own, wherever I bought it.
What it does
- One library across PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. Link your accounts and your games import automatically, including digital, physical and subscription (PS Plus, Game Pass) copies.
- Smart consolidation. A game, its remaster and its PS3 re-release are the same game. GamePanda groups editions, ports and remasters under one entry, using IGDB relationship data instead of guessing from titles.
- Trophies and achievements from all three platforms in one place, with per-game progress and showcase cards you can share.
- Price tracking and alerts across the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store and Steam, per edition and per region, with push notifications when a game hits your target price.
- Discover rails, plus PS Plus and Game Pass catalog shelves showing what your subscriptions include.
How we built it
- iOS app: SwiftUI and SwiftData, Swift 6 concurrency, split into modular Swift packages (Domain, Networking, Persistence, one package per feature). It supports iOS 18 with a custom glass design system and uses native Liquid Glass on iOS 26 and later.
- Backend: Bun, TypeScript, Fastify, PostgreSQL (Drizzle ORM), BullMQ and Redis. It runs an IGDB gateway, scheduled store price sweeps, subscription catalog syncs, and price alert evaluation that sends push notifications through APNs.
- Monetization: RevenueCat powers GamePand+. The library is free, and GamePanda+ adds premium features on top. RevenueCat handles purchases, entitlements and the paywall, so we could focus on the product instead of on receipt validation.
- Security: App Attest, Sign in with Apple and Google, and platform tokens kept only in the Keychain.
Challenges we ran into
- What counts as "the same game"? Remasters, remakes, ports, bundles and editions all show up as separate IGDB entries. Consolidating them correctly without losing each edition's trophy set was the hardest data problem in the project.
- Prices are messy. Every store has different regions, currencies, editions and bundles. Matching the right store offer to the right edition, and never showing a stale or wrong price, needed strict rules for data validity. -How to differentiate. Our app had to be different from all the other apps, so we added Simple View, Trading Cards you can earn for completing a game, Challenges and more things to come, to keep the app engaging and easy to use.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Shipping a real cross-platform library that imports PlayStation, Xbox and Steam games in one onboarding flow.
- Consolidation that turns hundreds of scattered store entries into a clean, readable library.
- Edition-aware, region-aware pricing and alerts across three stores, backed by our own price history.
- A polished design that feels native on both iOS 18 and iOS 26+ Liquid Glass.
- Going from idea to a public App Store release with a working RevenueCat subscription.
- 3D Trading Cards
What we learned
Syncing data from sources you don't control is mostly about handling partial failure honestly. We also learned that a paywall feels fair when the free tier is genuinely useful and GamePanda+ adds power on top of it, not when it locks away the basics.
