• The existing market for grants is challenging for professors, forcing them into unnatural roles as pitch people for their research ideas
  • We're providing an alternative that will allow the professors to spend more time on research and less time pitching.
  • Our platform allows for many to one and many to many investors to researcher relationships, so if an investor sees an - an idea they like they can provide additional funding to an existing RFP
  • The eventual product being a smart contract creates excellent transparency.

Inspiration

GameOfGrants provides a portal for scholars to create proposals, for investors to request proposals, and for scholars and investors to connect, decide to work with each other, and create a smart contract defining their work relationship.

What it does

GameOfGrants provides a portal for scholars to create proposals, for investors to request proposals, and for scholars and investors to connect, decide to work with each other, and create a smart contract defining their work relationship.

How I built it

We created a web app with 2 main pages, researchers are able to take proposals given by investors as a grant and all payments are issued in cryptocurrencies. The research is intended to be blockchain-related.

Challenges I ran into

We ran into a number of challenges related to working with existing technologies, including interaction with Angular components. It was hard to put all the pieces together and dive into smart contracts was pretty challenging as well.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We're proud of making the platform design, and the project idea itself and the fact that we managed to understand smart contracts and blockchain-related API in a short period of time.

What I learned

Hackathons can present an array of challenges related to getting things integrated in a short time period. Additionally, I learned about working with existing blockchain technologies including Angular 9, Blockchain, Ethereum address, Web3 JS API, Metamask, Truffle library

What's next for GameOfGrants

We plan to finish the demo and test the waters as to whether or not it makes sense to try developing a production version
