Inspiration Our inspiration for GameHub stemmed from the passion for gaming and the desire to bring together the gaming community in New York City. We noticed a lack of centralized platforms specifically dedicated to showcasing gaming events and updates in NYC. With this in mind, we set out to create a web app that would serve as a hub for gamers to discover and stay connected with the vibrant gaming scene in the city.

What it does GameHub is a web app that acts as a comprehensive resource for gaming events in NYC. It provides users with an easy-to-navigate platform to explore upcoming gaming events, including tournaments, conventions, meetups, and workshops. Users can view event details, such as date, location, and participating organizations, and get all the information they need to plan their gaming adventures. Additionally, GameHub allows users to receive notifications and updates about their favorite events, ensuring they never miss out on exciting opportunities.

How we built it We built GameHub using a combination of technologies. The frontend of the web app was developed using React.js, HTML, and CSS. These technologies enabled us to create a visually appealing and interactive user interface. For testing and mocking the server-side interactions, we utilized Postman and set up a mock server to simulate an API response. This allowed us to showcase the functionality of the web app without relying on a real API that provides NYC-specific gaming event data.

Challenges we ran into One of the challenges we faced was the unavailability of an API that provided real-time gaming event data for NYC. To overcome this hurdle, we resorted to using Postman and a mock server to simulate the API responses. Although this solution provided us with the necessary functionality for the hackathon, we recognized the importance of integrating a real API in the future to offer users accurate and up-to-date information about gaming events in NYC.

Accomplishments that we're proud of We're proud of successfully creating a web app that brings together the gaming community in NYC. Despite the challenge of not having access to a real API, we were able to showcase the core functionalities of GameHub using the mock server. We also achieved a visually appealing and user-friendly interface that enhances the overall experience for users exploring gaming events in NYC.

What we learned Throughout the development of GameHub, we gained valuable experience in utilizing React.js to build responsive and interactive user interfaces. We also honed our skills in using Postman to mock server interactions and handle API responses. Additionally, we recognized the significance of having access to real-time data and the importance of integrating a reliable API in future iterations of GameHub.

What's next for GameHub The next step for GameHub is to develop and integrate an API that provides real-time gaming event data for NYC. By utilizing an actual API, we will enhance the accuracy and reliability of the information available on the platform. This will ensure that users have access to the latest and most comprehensive gaming event listings in the city. We also plan to expand the features of GameHub, such as incorporating user profiles, event reviews, and social interactions, to further enrich the gaming community experience.
