Inspiration
We wanted to inspire ourselves from Letterboxd, a movie rating website where you can share your reviews of the movies you watched to your friends. Our idea was to be able to replicate this idea but for video games, and this time, on an app
What it does
Our backend fetches and scrapes all games available on Steam, we then display the featured games and allow the user to search for specific games. You can then click and look at the game's details:
- Screenshots of the games
- Its rating
- A link to purchase it
- Reviews
- And finally just a quick description of the game
How we built it
Our backend is ran with an ExpressJS Rest API, with web scraping of the unofficial Steam API. We then made our frontend design on Figma. And since then we have been trying to make it into code
Challenges we ran into
Having never done frontend, not succeeding in converting the design into functional code has been more than frustrating
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It was our first hackathon for us 3, so coming up with an idea we deemed really good makes us really happy.
What we learned
Frontend is not fun
What's next for GameHive
Create a fully functionning prototype, add an account system, add lists and add epic games launcher library
AI Disclosure
During our coding process we used tools such as ChatGPT and Cursor AI
