BLACK GIRL GAMING

Black Girl Gaming is a fine art series that explores several experiences of Octavia, a "Black Girl Gamer”, in the gaming space. Online gaming for women of colour is too often fraught with racial abuse and discriminatory challenges but still remains a source of joy and entertainment. Hearing stories from @BlackGirlGamers about their experiences in the gaming space made me sit with the spectrum of realities the community often face online and the hopes that they have for alternative ways. With this in mind I created this series to increase awareness of the experiences they encounter. These artistic perspectives of understanding hope to contribute to a more compassionate culture in gaming.

This project intends to commit a portion of its profits, via smart contract, to @BlackGirlGamers, a grassroots gaming community of over 8000 members founded by Jay-Ann Lopez @jayannlopez_ that “Heightens Black Women's voices in gaming” and provides support and “a safe space for women of colour who otherwise feel excluded from the world of gaming.”
