Inspiration & Design

We took inspiration from The Game Of Life. This board game has players navigate through life, make decisions, earn money, and ultimately try to gain the most wealth by the end of the game. Wealth is measured in a variety of ways which affects your overall final score. We wanted a way to gamify learning financial literacy. There are some existing resources online but these sites can be a task to navigate, difficult to find, and hard to understand so the goal was to gamify learning to make it fun and motivating.

Problem-Need Fit

Problem: Many young adults, especially high school and college students, lack sufficient financial literacy and struggle to stay engaged with traditional learning methods, such as articles. Solution: "The Game of Life" is a gamified educational tool aimed at enhancing financial literacy. It uses interactive quizzes on topics like budgeting, saving, investing, and debt management. Users earn points for correct answers and must answer correctly to progress, reinforcing learning through fun gameplay. Unique Value Proposition: The game stands out by combining education with an engaging, gamified approach. Its interactive quizzes and points system motivate users, making learning fun and effective, while also offering additional resources on important financial topics.

What it does

"The Game of Life" is an educational game that helps users learn about personal finance, budgeting, saving, investing, and debt management through interactive quizzes. Users earn points for correct answers, which encourages learning and makes the process enjoyable.

How we built it

We built "The Game of Life" using React for the frontend, Tailwind CSS for responsive and customizable styling, and React Router for smooth navigation between pages and components. The quizzes and resource library are all integrated to provide a seamless learning experience.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was designing an interface that is both educational and engaging. We also had to ensure that the points system balanced fun with reinforcing the financial literacy concepts, so users felt motivated to continue learning without being overwhelmed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of successfully creating a gamified learning experience that combines interactive quizzes with educational resources. The points system motivates users to not only answer questions but also learn the material deeply, ensuring a meaningful impact on financial literacy.

What we learned

We learned how to integrate gamification into an educational platform, and how important user engagement is in helping young adults develop financial literacy. Additionally, we gained experience in using React and Tailwind CSS to build user-friendly and responsive applications.

What's next for "Game of Life"

Next, we plan to expand the content by adding more advanced financial topics and enhancing the user experience. We also aim to introduce a competitive element, allowing users to compare scores with friends, and further improve the resource library with more interactive content.
