Inspiration Pickup players build reputations at individual courts, but that identity disappears elsewhere. GameLVL brings video game-style progression to real basketball.

What it does Players find courts, join or create games, log results and stats, and wait for three participant confirmations. Once verified, they earn XP, improve OVR, unlock badges, and rise in local, Virginia, and national rankings.

How we built it We used Expo, React Native, TypeScript, Expo Router, and Zustand. The game logic is separated behind typed repositories and covered by 118 automated tests.

Challenges We refined the rating system so stronger opponents create more meaningful rewards, aligned the app with the supported Expo version, and stabilized interactive court markers.

Accomplishments We built a complete court-to-reward flow with verified results, replayable progression, badges, and ranking changes.

What we learned Passing tests is not enough. Tests must prove the product rules are meaningful, especially confirmation, progression, and opponent difficulty.

What’s next Add persistent accounts, location-verified check-ins, court seasons, rivalry records, and richer performance-based ratings.
