Inspiration
As new college students, we were eager to build something that enabled people to make new friendships by joining informal games open to the community.
What it does
Game Grabber allows users to connect with groups of people playing informal sports games by displaying nearby games on a map. Users have the ability to join or create games.
How we built it
We built it using HTML/CSS/JS for the front-end and the Flask python framework + sqlalchemy as backend. We also used the Google Maps API
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest roadblocks were working with the form data submission and making pinned locations interactive
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a semifunctional website with minimal web development experience
What we learned
We grew our skills in Flask, Javascript, Github collaboration, and using the Google Maps API
What's next for Game Grabber
- Functionality for friend requests and messaging
- User background checks for safety
- Point-based gamification of the platform to incentivize users to spend more time outside with the community
