Game Design Buddy

Inspiration

I love playing games, but sometimes it feels like newer games are stale and just ideas re-used from previous successful games with new graphics. I want unique games that are fun and compelling.

What it does

Generates unique, creative ideas for multiple game genres, settings, and mechanics.

How we built it

Thinking about the most unique games I've played, I tried to distill each element down to its core to create a baseline of what can be fun while still being new and fresh, and not just re-using existing game elements.

Challenges we ran into

The gaming arena is huge, so choosing genres, settings, and mechanics for the baseline was difficult. Too many choices and you risk incoherence. Too few choices and you lose uniqueness.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Some of the ideas I've generated I've saved for future use. The idea that some of these game ideas could exist in the real world someday is amazing.

What we learned

Creating AI applications doesn't have to be difficult or confusing. PartyRock made it easy and fun!

What's next for Game Design Buddy

Hopefully, its first real-world game.
