Inspiration

With the rapid development of the video game's market, an increasing variety of games are developed for catering for the ever-growing demand. Games are not only prevailing in youngsters' group, but also attracts tremendous interest from other ages. However, some games are not friendly to beginners, which scares them away before they get any fun from the game. Moreover, some game-lovers may input large amount of time, while getting the improvement in a very slow and inefficient way because of the lack of guidance. Some people may miss fabulous chance because latest updates have not been exposed to them. Based on my research, we only have some individual gaming blogs for some specific games, and very scarce numbers of guidance apps are available. My idea is inspired from these issues. By integrating the functions of both game forums and guidance apps, my application provides the platform for game-lovers. User can easily access the information of latest upcoming events based on their location as well as sharing different ideas and experience with each other.

What it does

Anyone can browse the contents of application as a visitor. However, an individual need to create an account on Game Camp if they want to leave a comment, update their walkthrough videos, or share the skills or strategies about the games. After choosing the name of the game, one can three tags on the top which is event, forum, and share. The timely updated news about this game can be accessed by clicking on the ‘event’ button. The user could be both the uploader or the follower. One can not only learn from other player’s experience, but also being able to share their skills once they got into higher level. As a follower, one can click on the ‘forum’ button to view the tutorials or guidance for the chosen game. If followers find something really helpful or interesting, they can support the uploader by ‘Golden coin’ of their own accord. Golden coin is the electrical currency for our Game Camp, which can be purchased by Paypal. As an uploader, he or she can share the experience, walkthrough video, guidance articles for free, or paid contents can be set, in which way golden coins can be earned.

How I built it

I use the Justinmind software to build my prototype. I used search engines to download official logos of some popular games such as PokemonGo and Hearthstone. I designed the interface by myself and ask some testers and refined it based on their feedback.

Challenges I ran into

The most predominant challenge I faced is the limitation of time. The UHack event is very intensive and I have to get bulk of works done by myself within two days. Additionally, I am a bachelor student studying Engineering, who do not have any working experience or theoretical knowledge about management. Thus, it is a bit challenging for me to do the business model and future vision from an entrepreneur perspective.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I designed the first application in my life which is very meaningful for me. I got everything done by myself before the deadline which gives me a great sense of achievement. The most exciting part of the event is that I managed to put my idea into practical and make progress steps by steps. Seeing the project growing gives me tremendous proudness.

What I learned

First, I had rewarding experience in entrepreneurship. I learnt how to think about the original ideas from the business perspective. I got new knowledge about how to initiate the business model, how to transfer the business model into the pitch desk, and how to structure the idea in a logical way. Second, although I work individually on this project, I interacted with other groups a lot. I got constructive suggestions from my peers to refine my project. I got precious experience in communicating ideas with other people. Third, I learnt how to plan for my missions. As I mentioned before, UHack is a very intensive event that requires finish a lot of works within less than two days. I got the idea about how to streamline my tasks and increase the efficiency by multi-tasking when necessary.

What's next for game camp

Stage 1: Earn the first pod of gold by the electrical currency I plan to get the revenue by letting our members pay for the ‘Golden coin’at the first stage. It is a win-win strategy for us application-developer and the player. It provides followers with a way to express their gratitude and uploaders with a way to earn reputation. Stage 2: Get partnership with professional players When we get enough financial support, we can invite some professional e-sports player as the special guests. Their interviews or tutorials can be accessed easily for our members. In this way, the reputation of our application can be expanded to the next phase. We can also get the promotion by word-of-mouth of our members who are satisfied with the application. Step 3: Cooperate with large famous game companies After gaining enough reputations, we can get support from the large gaming companies and hopefully build the strategic partnership with them. It is a win-win situation for us because we can do the mutual advertisement.
