Inspiration

With a theme of connection, we wanted to think of some way for people to share their thoughts among each other. We decided a single website would be the best with a simple UI so people could easily share answers to random prompts to see the diversity and uniqueness in their answers.

What it does

Gallerie is a collaborative platform meant to allow people to share their opinions and thoughts. Once you create an account, you can add friends and view their responses to prompts generated by AI.

How we built it

We used Firebase's Firestore to contain all the data. Here, user login information, prompts, and answers are stored. This information is called from the website, which uses raw HTML, CSS, and JS. Then, with some formatting, everything is displayed on the website.

Challenges we ran into

Styling the website was one of our largest challenges. Neither of us have a lot of experience in web design so with this unique website we had to find some style that fit perfectly. Another challenge was using Firebase. It was a new tool we haven't used before so it took some time to learn. Eventually, we got that hang of it, though, and now we have another tool under our belt that we can use for the future.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The biggest accomplishment we're proud of is the interaction between friends. It took a lot of trial and error but eventually we got a system that makes sense for anyone to use without any tutorial or outside help. We really wanted our website to be accessible for everyone and we believe this achieves that very well.

What we learned

We learned both how to design a new unique website while also now understanding how to use firebase as a database to connect multiple people. We also learned a bit about logging in and user security.

What's next for Gallerie

A more expansive UI is one of our main goals to fix with Gallerie. We also want to make replies a bit more fluid.
