Inspiration

With the rise in Astro technology and space exploration, we are moving towards sending astronauts into deep space for further explorations in various manned missions, this is going to increase shortly. When I was visiting a doctor due to leg pain, he told me that my bone density had decreased and I needed to use Calcium and D3 supplements. When I saw a random video on YouTube on what happens in space after X amount of time, it said that bone density decreases very rapidly, and with research, I found out that in microgravity environments, bone mass loss is ten times as that on earth. The current medication suited on earth has very minimal absorption in space and to tackle this, I as a Chemical Engineer thought about developing GalacticOrtho Pharmaceuticals to solve it and make life a priority in the missions of the cosmos.

What it does

The conventional treatments and medications for osteoporosis are not effective in space due to microgravity and have very poor absorption into the body. We want to develop a unique formulation for osteoporosis treatment through an effective combination of Calcium, Vitamin D, Biphosphonates, anabolic agents, and nutrients like Zn and Mg to maintain the health of bones.

How we built GalacticOrtho Pharmaceuticals

As a Chemical Engineer having a doctor and an engineer as parents, I was almost intersecting in both fields with a slight leaning into the medical field, and various problems in the medical field that need to be addressed lead to others that further need to be addressed. This was built with a motive of providing proper bone health to all the space travelers so that they have one less thing to worry about.

Challenges we ran into

The main problems for the company are to choose the correct formulation of the drug with a balance of components suitable for superior absorption in space and to study the reactions and observe for any side reactions or effects in the medicated people requiring huge initial money for R&D.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Developing a startup focused on the healthcare of humans in space, and learning a lot about how business decks are done for an effective and long-focused business.

What we learned

The effectiveness of medicine in microgravity conditions and how effective formulations can be developed for superior performance and absorption under these conditions.

What's next for GalacticOrtho Pharmaceuticals

This is just the beginning, there is much more to focus on in the healthcare aspects of microgravity and we focus on launching more products in the future to transit from GalacticOrtho Pharmaceuticals to Galactic Well-Being Pharma Ltd.
