Inspiration

After witnessing the addictive success of the game Fish!, I identified a gap: the challenge of keeping the player experience fresh over time. Galactic Horizon was born to solve this by layering complex settlement management onto a core cosmic fishing loop.

What it does

Galactic Horizon merges relaxing cosmic fishing with strategic ecological management. Players harvest unique alien biotypes from dangerous zones to stabilize and expand their own thriving alien settlements.

How I built it

I utilized a color-coded, mobile-first UI to maintain visual consistency across navigation, fishing, and management modes. Each piece of specialized gear is integrated with mechanics that directly impact settlement infrastructure and ecological health.

Challenges I ran into

The main challenge was balancing a "cohesive visual language" for mobile that clearly distinguished between the game's cold "Void" and warm "Sanctuary" atmospheres without overloading the screen.

Accomplishments that I’m proud of

I successfully bridged fishing and settlement building, ensuring every catch acts as a strategic decision. I effectively linked gear-based mechanics to ecological compliance and species harvesting.

What I learned

I learned that visual coherence is more impactful than raw polish. Consistent UI design makes complex systems accessible and transforms simple mechanics into a deep, long-term experience.

What's next for Galactic Horizon

I plan to introduce new biotypes, dynamic atmospheric challenges, and deeper species-settlement synergy systems.
