Inspiration

We were inspired to create Gal-match because we always felt that it was harder to find friends in your area who shared similar interests with you. Especially after high school since everyone has their own groups, its much harder to connect with people. Gal-match would allow people to connect with friends and broaden their social bubbles.

What it does

Gal match is an app for finding friends who share similar interests with you. When creating a profile you would list a couple of your main interests so the app can better match you up with people you have something in common with. These interests could be changed at any time. Then you would be given profiles that you would swipe left or right on depending on if you "like" or "dislike" the profile. Each profile would include the other user's name, age, a description, and a picture collage that shows what they are passionate about. Gal match could be used to make friends for fun purposes or even educational purposes if you want to find friends who share an interest in educational topics that you can work with for projects. There would also be a page for news/announcements where people you have matched with can make announcements or post news updates (maybe for support, looking for help, project proposals, or just news) and all the people they are matched with would be able to see this news/update feed.

How we built it

We only build a small prototype for the app but we used snap to bring it together in a simple way for the user to test out. We spent time to design a logo and work out some kinks in the program, but we finished with a project we were proud of.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we had were when trying to figure out an app that would be usable by many, it was hard to come up with an app that could benefit a large group of people. That s why we chose to have all interests included in the app so it wasn't a common space for just games, or just animal lovers, or just art lovers. Its a platform that would support every single person to provide them with useful connections

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Were proud that we were able to come together as a group and pile all our ideas into one. We all had aspects we wanted to see in the final result and were proud that we were able to compile all those ideas into one within the 2 days we had to create our app.

What we learned

We learned how important it can be to work as a group with a versatile idea set. Having others ibn our group broadened our minds to new ideas we might not have though of alone. it also taught us that even if an idea seems hard or hard to achieve, when we worked together it was a much more do-able feat.

What's next for Gal Match App

Next for Gal-Match would be to actually create the fully functioning app and work on spreading the word about it.
