Inspiration
When I was a college student, I was always concerning about my safety on campus and the surrounding areas. While walking at night, or during the day when there were less people on the street, I was worried that whether I was taking a safe path. Moreover, I wanted to tell my friends not to walk on specific roads because of their criminal records that were on the news.
What it does
Gainesville Safety allows people in the city and especially UF students to see the history criminal records of the routes they are taking within 1 year timeframe.
How we built it
Manipulating criminal history record api (https://data.cityofgainesville.org/api/id/gvua-xt9q.json) and google directions api to display a map view and a table that shows routes they have to take and criminal records with crime description and offense date.
Challenges we ran into
Having cors issues were my challenges that I had to allowed headers to my api call with cors allows all.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to retrieve api data and display it which matches routes that users are taking.
What we learned
Google Directions API, Firebase, and VueJS are technologies that I learned for this project
What's next for Gainesville Safety
Extending the map to users around the country as well as allow users input as current location are my goals to improve this project.
