Inspiration

Climate change is an escalating global crisis that demands immediate and widespread attention. Despite increasing awareness, there remains a critical gap between understanding the urgency of climate action and translating that awareness into tangible efforts. Individuals often struggle to find accessible ways to contribute to climate initiatives, and the lack of a centralized platform hinders the collective impact of localized efforts.

What it does

Gaia Pulse is a web application designed to promote and catalyze climate action. The application incorporates several features to achieve its objectives. This includes a climate clock countdown, Climate art, a Climate chatbot, and a web map showing the locations of climate projects. The overarching goal of GaiaPulse is to bridge the gap between awareness and action. By combining dynamic visualizations, creative expression, and practical engagement tools, the web application aims to empower individuals to take concrete steps toward addressing climate change. Aligning with SDG 13.

How we built it

We first drew sketches on the application, then Frontend Development using HTML/CSS and JavaScript; Use of AI Libraries/Tools on AI image generation and integration; Mapping Integration to create interactive maps, and Deployment on Netlify.

Challenges we ran into

We experienced challenges in using open-source AI chatbots to create the app, especially on hugging faces. We were however able to find an alternative.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of being able to complete the project and learn about content creation using AI text-to-image generation and image-to-video.

What we learned

We learned how AI models are trained, and utilized on Microsoft Azure and Huggingface.

What's next for Gaia Pulse

Creating awareness of the platform and collaboration with organizations and institutions that focus on climate action.
