Inspiration

The song idea has been lurking for a long time, and I've accumulated great AI animated clips to make the visual story I wanted to go with the song. The initial thought for the song was centered around the very very simple but impactful feeling of holding my kids when they were at their tiniest. From there, the visual story grew and all I've had to go with it was the chorus.

More about the story

The idea is centered around a "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" type world, where the kids wake up bug-sized, but the song is meant to be positive so they have a blast discovering and enjoying what they find. Cookie? That's food for days. Spider web? Sounds like a zip line to me! They go around having an adventure of a lifetime, but there's always some hurdle to overcome and this adventure is no different.

The story depicts the kids waking up and going on an adventure. They're having a blast, but they see their dad and find that they're too little to get his attention so they get creative. They use nectar they find on flowers to lure in some fireflies to eventually spell out "OVER HERE" to help their dad find them. They're scooped up and brought to their cozy home.

The Song

The song is a demo made for this contest with the goal of iterating for the eventual complete song while providing the music for what is the finished video. In seeing what came to life with the guitar, the song turned into more of a concept of being small in the world and trying to make a meaningful impact anyway. It's increasingly hard to have real control over ones own life much less have a positive impact one the world as just one person in the world, but the song's initial inspiration was my kids and I can't help but want a better world regardless but with them that desire is so much stronger and it fueled the impromptu acoustic iteration of the song that's present in the video.

What's Next

The video itself is exactly what I want, with something of "Pixar" style, all AI-Animated and telling a story that feels fun and meaningful. The song is an acoustic version of a first iteration and will get some more work, but I know this - the real version will start off with a long and low bass note. It'll be the first track on the eventual album "Angry Zombie Robot", which comes from an ongoing request my son had when he was 3. "Will you please be an angry zombie robot?" Can't say no to that.
