Inspiration

Gacha games reward you for waiting, and the challenge was to do something to make waiting at Gatwick more fun (and potentially profitable)

What it does

After a wait, a ticket spawns in related to one of the most common airlines that fly from Gatwick. This allows the player to collect a random plane or location in Gatwick for a collection.

How we built it

We used Android Studio and Kotlin to develop a gacha app.

Challenges we ran into

We originally planned on making the tickets relate to the arrival or departure of planes from each airline flying from Gatwick, but all of the APIs we could find to do that were paid and we didn't have time to figure out how to get that information ourselves. None of us had worked with Kotlin or Android Studio before, so we had a lot of minor debugging problems related to that.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We made a thing! And we had a lot of fun, both with the idea and carrying it out.

What we learned

A lot about planes! Some of us learnt a new programming language, too.

What's next for Gachawick Airport

Getting around to unfinished sections such as using plane tracking APIs and card trading.
