Inspiration

Our team is passionate about games so we thought we could create an interactive game in order to educate youth on what items are trash, recyclable, or compost in order to encourage proper and sustainable waste disposal

What it does

The player is in charge of moving a bin left and right in order to catch items falling from the sky. The bin must be changed to a trash bin, recycling bin, or compost bin depending on the item falling from the sky. In these three levels the difficulty increases and the player learns about how to dispose of waste.

How we built it

We used pygame.

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble adding graphics to the game so that it is not just a bunch of rectangles.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the completeness of our game. We feature a fully functional start menu, pause menu, and level selector along with our three distinct levels.

What we learned

We learned teamwork, collaboration, and project management. We are all used to working individually so this experience gave us a chance to learn how to work on a project with others and how to distribute tasks.

What's next for Garbage Day

A way we can further build on this project is by adding more levels and potentially giving the player an option to visit different fictional neighbourhoods where they learn more about what items are trash, recyclable, and compost through more game levels.
