Inspiration

We were inspired by a member's mother complaining about recipe websites being difficult to navigate and overcomplicating the process of finding the recipe itself.

What it does

The project uses spoonacular API to find recipes that match your keywords, dietary restrictions, and more, allowing you to pick your favorite from a list and then see the recipe ingredients and instructions with no ads or unnecessary text, along with important nutritional information.

How we built it

We used Visual Studio and C# to create both the front and back end of this project. Spoonacular API was used to run the backend by finding the recipes and their information.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest struggles were with Github and using Visual Studio to combine front and back end. None of us had used much Github, and Visual Studio had only been used by a few of us in specific scopes with minimal backend. We spent a lot of time in the beginning listening to mentors explaining various tactics and solutions to our problems, and working independently to try to figure out how to use Github collaboratively.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were simply proud to have made a project with GUI start to finish, and to have learned as much as we have through this experience.

What we learned

We learned a lot about APIs, GUIs, Visual Studio, Github, C#, collaboration, and problem solving

What's next for g++ Recipe Finder

We would love to add more ways to filter and sort our recipe suggestions, a cleaner GUI, and more information with the recipes. Eventually, this project could even evolve into including a menu builder and personal recipe collection, like a digital cookbook. We would love to be able to scan recipes off of other websites or even physical copies and digitize them into our recipe format.

Due to GUI, recommended monitor scale is 150%
