Sangya: AI-Powered Platform for Thalassemia Support
Inspiration
India has over 100,000 individuals living with transfusion-dependent Thalassemia, yet most still struggle with timely access to blood donors, reliable care, and information about their condition. While systems like e-RaktKosh exist, they lack predictive intelligence, continuity of care, and accessibility for underserved communities. Inspired by the mission of Blood Warriors and driven by the belief that technology should solve real problems, Sangya was created to bridge these gaps — not just with features, but with purpose.
What it does
Sangya is an AI powered native platform portal for Donors, user Patients, Doctors, other admin, in a cross-platform manner, cost-efficient, built to address Thalassemia at its root, help Thalassemia Patients and encourage Donors. It operates through four tightly integrated pillars:
1. Blood Match AI – Predictive Donor Connectivity to Patient
- Matches Thalassemia patients with compatible donors in real time using Geo-matching, Blood group compatibility, Health & donation history.
- Predicts donor availability using behavioral signals like donation frequency, geo-activity, and eligibility windows of blood.
- Seamlessly integrates with national platforms like e-RaktKosh and Blood Warriors' Blood Bridge to streamline fulfillment.
2. Thalassemia Aware to curious – Personalized Awareness & Community Education for helping blood donation and genetic risk
- An LLM-powered chatbot available via web and WhatsApp, for low-tech environments.
- Educates users patients about Thalassemia, transfusion care, prevention, and genetic risk.
- Offering guided counseling pathways - helping families navigate genetic testing, clinics, and treatment options.
- Unlocks a sustainability pathway for Blood Warriors by enabling partnerships with genetic counselors, clinics, and donors to fund sponsored sessions and consultations - reinforcing mission.
3. Smarter Patient–Provider Collaboration Module
- A digital medical assistant for doctors (Doctor Portal) to review patient history and transfusion cycles using auto-summarized LLM notes.
- Patients can securely chat with doctors, and store care instructions all within a mobile-friendly platform notes.
- Sangya will help find Centres, Doctors and can integrate Doctors from PharmEasy, Practo, data remaining with Sangya.
4. Donor Score & Recognition Engine – Engaging Repeat Donors
Sangya introduces an AI-powered DonorScore system to drive repeat blood donations and generate data-backed impact.
- Smart Scoring: Calculates a score (0–100) based on donation frequency, responsiveness, and participation in urgent needs.
- Recognition Layer: Badges, milestones, and e-certificates to reward consistent donors and increase visibility across colleges, corporates, and communities.
- Gamified Campaigns: Leaderboards and monthly challenges to boost engagement. NGOs can run localized drives or national contests using real-time donor data.
- Impact Data for CSR: Aggregated metrics (donor activity, impact zones, response rates) create valuable insights for CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) reports and corporate partnerships.
- Funding Scope: Enables Blood Warriors to attract CSR sponsorships, donor-funded drives, and NGO grants using transparent, real-time impact analytics.
These modules don’t work in isolation they collectively create a data-aware, emotionally intelligent ecosystem focused on saving lives, increasing trust, and powering Blood Warriors' long-term impact. Thalassemia should be widely countered like Polio.
How I will build it
I will use:
- LLMs (OpenAI/Ollama + LangChain) for personalized, multilingual educational flow.
- PyTorch for donor availability prediction using past patterns and real-time location.
- FastAPI + PostgreSQL for secure and scalable backend infrastructure.
- ReactJS and Flutter for responsive web and mobile platforms.
- Google Cloud Vision API to extract transfusion records via photo uploads.
- WhatsApp Business API to reach low-bandwidth users in Tier 2 and Tier 3 India.
The platform is modular, cost-efficient, and deployable with minimal setup.
Challenges that will arise
| Challenge | Mitigation |
|---|---|
| Data Privacy (HIPAA/GDPR) | Secure APIs, tokenized data, user opt-ins |
| Real-time donor validation | Integration with e-RaktKosh |
| Tech literacy gap | Voice-support chatbot, language localization |
| Multi-stakeholder complexity | Designed interoperable modules for patients, donors, NGOs, doctors |
Solutions for this Challenges
- Role based Portals
- e-Raktkosh will provide with blood bank details if Matching failovers or Donors are not present.
- Regional chatbots using LLM (OpenAI/ Ollama + Langchain) to talk with context about users Patient and history.
Sangya is not just another platform. It's a life-affirming, AI-powered bridge built to serve, scale, and support India's fight against Thalassemia.
