Inspiration In Latin America, more than 50% of women-led businesses operate informally selling through WhatsApp, at street markets, from home kitchens, or on Instagram. They are the backbone of their families and communities, yet nearly 73% have no access to the financial tools they need to grow. They don't have a CFO. They don't have an accountant. They carry their entire business "in their head."
I built Futuro Semilla because I come from that region, and I know firsthand what it means to make financial decisions in the dark not knowing if you're actually profitable, why the money never stretches, or whether you can afford to buy more inventory this week.
I wanted to build the tool that millions of women across LATAM have always needed: a digital CFO that speaks their language, understands their reality, and gives them the financial clarity to grow before they ever have a formal accountant, a bank account, or a spreadsheet.
What it does Futuro Semilla is a digital CFO for informal women entrepreneurs in LATAM but thought the idea globally. From a short, mobile‑friendly questionnaire, it builds a personalized financial profile for each business country, type of business, estimated monthly sales and expenses, how they collect payments, and peak sales days — without asking for bank statements, invoices, or spreadsheets.
On top of that profile, Futuro Semilla delivers eight CFO-grade tools in language that feels like a trusted friend, not a bank:
CFO Score & Financial Health Dashboard Calculates a CFO Score from 0–100 that instantly summarizes the health of the business. In one screen, the entrepreneur sees her real income, real expenses, and how much money actually remains at the end of the month. The dashboard explains in plain language exactly why money "disappears" — whether it's mixing household and business spending, buying inventory at the wrong time, or underpricing her products — and highlights both strengths and early warning signs before they become crises.
6-Month Cash Flow Projection Generates a forward-looking 6-month cash flow view using the entrepreneur's own sales patterns (stronger on weekends, paydays, or holidays). Risky months are flagged with clear alerts so she can prepare in advance — saving before a slow month, collecting before a big expense — instead of discovering the problem when it's already too late.
Break-Even Calculator Shows exactly how many units or services she needs to sell each month just to cover her fixed costs — and at what point she starts earning real profit for herself. A tool every CFO uses daily, now accessible to every woman with a phone.
Profit & Price Simulator Lets her simulate what happens to her monthly earnings if she raises or lowers her price, sells more or less volume, or changes her product mix — so she can make pricing and inventory decisions based on real math, not guesswork.
Inventory Decision Helper — "Can I buy more now?" She describes a purchase: what she wants to buy, what it costs, how much cash she has today, and in how many days she expects to sell it. The digital CFO answers with a clear YES / NO / WAIT recommendation, explains the cash-flow impact, and offers an alternative if she can't afford it today (buy less, wait until after payday, prioritize a different product).
Financial Calendar — Good Days & Bad Days Creates a personalized monthly calendar that marks the best days to collect payments, days to avoid large expenses, and days to set money aside — based on her sales patterns and fixed obligations. This helps her coordinate supplier payments, client collections, and personal spending strategically instead of reactively.
Savings Pockets for Business Resilience Suggests three simple, realistic savings pockets — emergency fund, inventory buffer, and growth investment — with monthly contribution amounts tied directly to her income level. She can start building financial resilience even before she has a formal savings account or access to credit.
AI CFO Chat powered by ElevenLabs The most powerful tool: a conversational AI CFO that doesn't just answer in text — it speaks. Powered by ElevenLabs voice AI, the CFO responds in a warm, human voice like a trusted friend who knows her numbers inside and out. She can ask anything:
"Why did I run out of money this month?"
"Can I afford to hire someone a few hours a week?"
"What should I cut first if I need to reduce expenses?"
"Am I undercharging for my product?"
"Should I take that bulk order?"
The AI CFO uses her actual data and projections to answer in three sentences or less, with one concrete action she can take today — in her language, with her numbers, at her level.
Automated Weekly Summary via Make.com Every Monday morning, an automated workflow built in Make.com calls the Futuro Semilla Supabase API, retrieves every registered user's personalized financial summary (income, expenses, balance, CFO Score, weekly tip and alerts), iterates through all users, and sends each one a personalized HTML email digest — keeping every entrepreneur financially informed and engaged every week, automatically, with zero manual effort.
Together, these tools transform an informal business that "lives in her head" into a business with a clear score, real projections, actionable calculators, a voice-powered CFO, and a weekly financial pulse — so she can understand her numbers, make better decisions every day, and be ready to access formal financial products when she's ready.
How we built it I built Futuro Semilla as a React + TypeScript, mobile-first web application using Lovable cloud, with Context API managing the financial profile and all business metrics across the full multi-tab dashboard.
Core financial calculations — margin, balance, break-even, profit simulations — run entirely on the frontend for instant, real-time feedback with no latency.
The AI layer uses Claude via an AI gateway to generate the narrative financial diagnosis, 6-month cash-flow projections, inventory decisions, financial calendar recommendations, savings suggestions, and personalized CFO chat responses — always grounded in each user's actual data, never generic advice.
For voice interaction, I integrated ElevenLabs to give the AI CFO a human voice — making financial guidance accessible to users who prefer listening over reading, have low literacy, or are multitasking while running their business.
For retention and habit-building, I built a Make.com automation scenario: every Monday it triggers a scheduled HTTP call to a Supabase Edge Function (resumen_semanal), which queries real user data, generates a personalized financial summary per user, and returns a structured JSON array. Make.com then iterates through every registered user with an Iterator module and sends each one a personalized weekly email with their income, expenses, balance, CFO Score, personalized tip, and alerts — fully automated, zero manual work.
The backend runs on Supabase — handling user authentication, financial profile storage, and the Edge Functions powering both the AI responses and the Make.com integration.
Challenges we ran into Designing a CFO tool for businesses without invoices, bank statements, or formal accounting was the core challenge — virtually every existing cash-flow tool assumes a formal company structure, the exact opposite of our user's reality.
Translating advanced financial concepts (cash flow, break-even, margin, working capital) into three clear, actionable sentences that anyone can understand — without losing the mathematical precision needed to make real decisions — required dozens of prompt iterations and UI testing rounds.
Integrating ElevenLabs so the AI CFO delivers spoken, personalized answers (not pre-recorded scripts) in real time, synchronized with the user's actual financial data, was technically complex but essential for true accessibility.
Building the Make.com automation required carefully debugging the nested Supabase JSON structure — mapping data.resumen fields correctly through the Iterator to personalized per-user emails — and ensuring the workflow handles edge cases like users with incomplete profiles or zero-data weeks gracefully.
Accomplishments that we're proud of In under 5 minutes, from a phone, with no prior financial knowledge, a woman who sells tamales from her kitchen or clothing on WhatsApp can — for the very first time — see exactly how much she truly earns, understand why her money disappears, know how many sales she needs to break even, and identify which month she needs to prepare for. That moment of clarity is the accomplishment we're most proud of.
The AI CFO chat powered by ElevenLabs doesn't just answer financial questions — it speaks them, making Futuro Semilla genuinely accessible for users who are busy, have low literacy, or simply feel more comfortable hearing advice than reading it.
The Make.com weekly automation means Futuro Semilla is present in every entrepreneur's inbox every Monday — building a consistent financial habit loop that doesn't depend on her remembering to open the app.
What I learned The real financial inclusion gap in LATAM is not primarily about access to credit — it's about comprehension. Millions of women are already running viable businesses, but no one has ever shown them their own numbers in language they understand.
AI is most powerful not as a flashy feature but as a translator: turning raw financial data into conversations, voice guidance, and small weekly nudges that feel like a trusted advisor, not an institution.
Automation (Make.com) and voice (ElevenLabs) are not nice-to-haves they are the bridge between a tool that gets used once and one that becomes a weekly financial habit that changes how a woman runs her business.
Building for informality requires rethinking every assumption: no bank data, no invoices, no spreadsheets, no financial vocabulary — and designing from scratch for that reality, not adapting a formal-sector tool downward.
What's next for FUTURO SEMILLA The immediate roadmap is deepening the financial toolset for women who don't yet have an accountant: per-product profit margin calculators, debt management and repayment planners, hiring cost simulators, and supplier negotiation guides — all powered by the data each user already records in the platform, so every recommendation is personalized, not generic.
The CFO chat will evolve into a full financial co-pilot: a safe space where she can ask anything about her business at any moment — by text or by voice — and receive clear, data-driven recommendations on what to improve, what to cut, when to hire, and how to negotiate better terms with suppliers and clients.
On the automation side, the Make.com workflow will expand to include personalized alerts (not just weekly summaries) triggered by specific financial events — a risky cash-flow month approaching, a savings goal reached, a break-even milestone crossed.
The ultimate goal of Futuro Semilla is not just to be a useful app — it is to be the financial foundation that takes a woman from running a business "in her head" to understanding her numbers, building financial resilience, accessing formal financial products when she's ready, and one day formalizing her business with full confidence.
Her business already exists. We make it visible. 🌱
