CONCEPT
Coming into the hackathon, our group wanted to do the data science track. Our project concept was originally focused on simulating different tribes on a made-up world. Each tribe will be affected by their location; based on what was around them, it could affect their population and happiness. We wanted to incorporate aggression as well, which would make one tribe attempt to take over another.
We changed our concept midway as our original concept felt more like we were attempting to make a game. This led us to come up with a more data driven path, which involved extracting climate data from 1979 to 2024. We use this information to create analytics, as well as a survivability probability for each climate region, based on weather, moisture of soil, humidity, etc. this probability is then fed in order to simulate the population of a tribe in a specific climate region.
PAINS AND CHALLENGES
We originally had an ambitious idea to simulate cavemen/tribe live; however, we had to change our idea drastically to fit the track we were trying to pursue. There were some new tools that we used, such as Streamlit and MongoDB Atlas, which created a heavy learning curve. It also forced the group to further adjust the vision, which deviated from the original idea.
