Inspiration FutureWings was inspired by my experience searching for study-abroad scholarships. Information was scattered across different websites, often outdated or unclear, making it difficult to compare opportunities and make the right decision. This confusion contributed to a wrong choice and a visa rejection.
I wanted to build a platform that helps students make informed, organized, and confident study-abroad decisions.
What it does FutureWings is an AI-powered study-abroad planning platform that helps students:
Discover universities, degree programs, and scholarships Receive personalized recommendations based on academic goals, budget, CGPA, and degree level Track applications and preferred programs Manage deadlines and important tasks Store admission and visa documents securely Assess visa readiness and identify preparation gaps Practice live AI interview questions and receive answer feedback Explore student reviews and community insights Receive notifications for deadlines and important updates Manage the complete journey from discovery to application preparation How we built it FutureWings was built as a full-stack application using:
Frontend: React, Vite, Tailwind CSS, and responsive JSX Backend: ASP.NET Core Web API on .NET 8 Database: SQL Server with Entity Framework Core Authentication: JWT authentication and BCrypt password hashing Real-time features: SignalR notifications AI features: Personalized recommendations, visa-risk analysis, and interview practice Storage: Secure document storage with local and cloud-ready support Payments: Stripe-ready subscription architecture with safe demo-mode support Testing: Backend unit/integration tests and frontend Vitest tests Deployment: Docker and Vercel/cloud-ready deployment The architecture follows a clean separation between domain models, application contracts, infrastructure services, and web APIs.
Challenges we ran into The biggest challenge was organizing fragmented study-abroad information into one clear experience. We also had to design recommendation logic that could use incomplete student profiles while still producing useful results.

Protecting sensitive documents and personal data Preventing duplicate applications and payment events Designing secure role-based access for students, agents, and administrators Building responsive interfaces for complex dashboards and forms Creating meaningful visa-readiness guidance without replacing professional advice Making AI features useful, understandable, and user-friendly Maintaining consistent behavior across many connected features Accomplishments that we're proud of Built a complete end-to-end study-abroad planning platform Created personalized program recommendations with explainable match reasons Added application tracking, deadline management, and scholarship workflows Implemented secure document upload validation and ownership protection Added structured visa-readiness assessment Developed live AI interview practice with feedback Added real-time notifications for deadlines and important updates Created separate student, agent, and admin workspaces Added secure authentication, rate limiting, role authorization, and payment safeguards Built a responsive and accessible user interface Added automated testing for core business, security, and UI functionality What we learned We learned how to design and build a production-style full-stack application using clean architecture. The project strengthened our understanding of database relationships, API design, authentication, authorization, secure file handling, responsive design, automated testing, and deployment.
We also learned that AI features should support users with clear explanations and practical next steps. Recommendations and risk assessments are most valuable when users understand why a result was generated and what they can do next.
