Inspiration
After many of us personally found deciding what careers would be best for us with the given options, we ultimately decided that there has to be a better way to make decisions about something that will involve such a large portion of your life.
What it does
Using a questionnaire to gauge what your interests and specific skillset, along with your desired education level, we can determine optimal high-paying careers sourced from government data. This allows users to plan out their finances in advance and act accordingly.
How we built it
Using React and Tailwindcss for the frontend and MongoDB combined with express for the backend, we've created a functional and modernly designed website.
Challenges we ran into
Several challenges involving config files, git merge conflicts, and outdated government databases caused us to lose valuable time on our project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The overall design and workaround for the archaic Bureau of Labor Statistics API.
What we learned
Working with web dev in a team poses a lot of problems when using a heavy tech stack, knowing when to restart or try something new was vital for time management.
What's next for FutureSight
Updated regions, more job choices, and a more fine-tuned algorithm for deciding positions, possibly implementing AI and training it on past user data.
