Inspiration
Every day, people make decisions that can impact their lives heavily for upcoming years—choosing a career, learning a new skill, changing fields, or pursuing higher education. These decisions are often made with uncertainty and incomplete information.
We noticed that while AI is becoming increasingly powerful, most tools focus on helping users execute tasks. Very few validate the assumptions with users and help them evaluate possible futures before committing significant time and effort. This inspired us to build FutureOS, an AI-powered life decision simulator that helps people explore, compare, and validate future paths while remaining in control of the final decision.
What it does
FutureOS helps users make better long-term decisions through a structured AI-assisted workflow. Users provide their goals, skills, confusion, interests, and supporting documents. FutureOS then:
- Validates AI-generated assumptions with the user.
- Generates multiple future scenarios with confidence scores.
- Allows users to adjust priorities and explore trade-offs.
- Identifies skill and experience gaps.
- Creates personalized roadmaps.
- Generates real-world life experiments to test decisions before making major time commitments.
- Tracks progress and accountability over time.
A key principle of FutureOS is that AI advises, but humans decide.
Impact
FutureOS is designed to help people make better long-term decisions before investing significant time, money, and effort into a path.
Students can explore career options before committing years to a specialization. Professionals can evaluate career transitions with greater confidence. Lifelong learners can identify skill gaps and create realistic growth plans.
Beyond recommendations, FutureOS promotes responsible decision-making by keeping users in control, validating AI assumptions, and encouraging real-world experimentation before major commitments are made.
How we built it
We built FutureOS as a full-stack AI application using:-
-Frontend: React, TypeScript, Vite, TailwindCSS
-Backend: Java 24, Spring Boot, Spring Security, JWT
-Database: PostgreSQL
-AI Service: FastAPI ,Groq API, llama 3.3 70b Versatile, llama 3.1 8B Instant
The platform combines onboarding, assumption validation, future simulation, preference slider, gap analysis, roadmap generation, experimentation, and progress tracking into a single decision-support system.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was designing AI that remains transparent and assists rather than dictates.
-Instead of allowing AI to make hidden assumptions and producing misalign recommendation, we built an assumption validation layer where users can accept or reject AI-generated assumptions before recommendations are generated.
-Another challenge was balancing personalization and flexibility. Every user has different goals, constraints, risk tolerance, and priorities. Designing a system that could generate meaningful future simulations while remaining adaptable required careful prompt design and workflow orchestration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
-Built a complete end-to-end AI-powered decision intelligence platform.
-Designed a human-in-the-loop workflow that keeps users in control.
-Created explainable future simulations instead of one-size-fits-all recommendations.
-Integrated gap analysis, assumption Validator, roadmaps, life experiments, and progress tracking into a unified experience to form actionable decision support.
-Delivered a working full-stack system within the hackathon timeline.
What we learned
This project taught us that the most impactful AI systems are not those that replace human judgment, but those that augment it.
We learned the importance of transparency, explainability of actions, and user control when AI is involved in meaningful decisions. We also gained valuable experience building and integrating a modern multi-service AI application and deploying it in short time frame.
What's next for FutureOS: AI Life Decision Simulator
We plan to expand FutureOS with:-
-More advanced future simulation models. -Long-term outcome tracking. -Collaborative decision-making with mentors and advisors. -Educational and career planning modules. -Improved explainability and transparency features. -future journey forking feature.
