Inspiration
As a former JEE aspirant, I realized that one of the main reasons I struggled was lack of focus and constant procrastination, even though I had clear goals. That experience made me think about how students often know what they should do, but still struggle to stay consistent. This inspired me to create FutureMe, an app that helps students connect their daily study habits with their future goals and stay motivated.
What it does
FutureMe is a study motivation app that helps students stay focused by connecting their daily study time with their future goals. Users set goals such as exams, university admissions, or career ambitions. The app tracks study sessions and shows how each session contributes to achieving those goals. It also sends reminders or messages from the user’s “future self” when they get distracted or procrastinate. By making the passage of time and progress toward goals visible, the app encourages better time management and consistent study habits. This helps students stay motivated and reduce procrastination.
How we built it
To build FutureMe, I first developed the core idea and reasoning behind the app based on my own experience with procrastination while preparing for JEE. I then used Figma Make to design and prototype the app interface, including the goal-setting screen, study timer, and progress tracker. The platform helped me quickly visualize how the app would look and function. While the main concept and logic behind the app were my own, I also used AI tools to assist with refining ideas, structuring features, and improving the design workflow. This combination helped me turn the concept into a clear and interactive prototype of the app.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge was turning an abstract idea like motivation and time awareness into a simple app feature that students can easily understand and use. It was also difficult to design a system where reminders from the “future self” feel encouraging rather than annoying.
Another challenge was structuring the app interface in a clear way while designing the prototype in Figma, so that the features like goal tracking, study timer, and progress visualization all fit together logically.
Finally, balancing creativity with practicality—making the idea innovative while still realistic for students to use—was another important challenge during the design process.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of turning a personal struggle with procrastination into a meaningful app concept that can help students stay focused and manage their time better.
What we learned
We learned how to turn a real-life problem into a practical app idea, design a clear prototype using Figma, and understand how motivation, time awareness, and thoughtful design can help students improve focus and productivity.
What's next for FutureMe
Next for FutureMe is turning the prototype into a fully functional mobile app with real features like study timers, goal tracking, and smart reminders. We also plan to test it with students to improve the design and understand what actually helps them stay focused. In the future, we hope to add features like personalized study insights and AI-based motivation to make the app even more effective.
