Future Funds
Empowering Teens for Financial Independence
Overview
Future Funds is a financial education platform designed to equip teens with the skills and confidence to make informed financial decisions. By engaging in interactive, hands-on learning experiences, teens gain real-world financial literacy skills that prepare them for adulthood.
Problem Statement
In Mexico, almost 75% of adolescents lack sufficient financial education, according to a study by the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (Comisión Nacional para la Protección y Defensa de los Usuarios de Servicios Financieros). This gap represents both a challenge and an opportunity to create a more informed and financially empowered generation.
Solution: Future Funds Platform
Platform Structure
Future Funds is based on an engaging, hands-on learning experience that combines interactive activities, expert guidance, and formal education.
Key Components
Belbin Method:
- At the beginning of the program, each student takes a short test based on the Belbin Method to identify their strengths and weaknesses within a team. This ensures a balanced team formation for collaborative learning.
Team-Based Learning:
- Teens work in teams of three to participate in 3-month blocks of integrative and stimulating activities.
- Each block focuses on developing practical financial skills through simulations, expert guidance, and formal education.
Learning Methodology:
- We follow Princeton's 70-20-10 learning method:
- 70% Simulations and Practice: Hands-on learning that develops decision-making and real-life financial skills.
- 20% Social Learning: Peer-to-peer collaboration and expert guidance through forums and discussions.
- 10% Formal Education: Structured educational material that provides a solid foundation in personal finance.
- We follow Princeton's 70-20-10 learning method:
Program Structure
3-Year Program:
- Divided into 3-month blocks, each focusing on different aspects of personal finance.
- At the end of the program, students will retake the Belbin-based test to identify their final roles for the final challenge.
Final Challenge:
- Students will apply everything they have learned in a culminating project, solving a complex financial problem based on the assigned roles. If successfully completed, they will earn a Future Funds certification.
Gamification and Engagement
- Throughout the program, teens earn badges and points for completing activities and challenges. These can be used to:
- Unlock new content.
- Showcase their achievements on their personal profiles.
- Motivate engagement and participation.
Partnerships
We will collaborate with:
- Universities: For content validation.
- Financial Experts: To provide up-to-date and practical information.
- Psychologists: To support teenagers' learning.
- IT Specialists: To ensure the smooth running and security of the platform.
