Inspiration

We're working to make sure everyone has a fair shot at growing a successful business, no matter who they are or what they’re building. Entrepreneurship is a unique ecosystem, where untold fortunes are made and groundbreaking ideas can reshape our lives. (What was life before Google, or even Uber?) Diverse founding teams provide unmatched potential for innovation and social impact. By 2044, the majority of the U.S. will be comprised of ethnically diverse populations. Women-founded startups have doubled in the past decade alone. Despite people from all walks of life having world-changing ideas (often through their own lived experiences), startup opportunities for diverse founders are not distributed equitably. In 2020, Black and Latinx founders together secured just $2.3bn out of $87.3bn in VC funding awarded that year. Women-led startups regardless of race or ethnicity pulled in just over $2bn during the same year. The challenge is even steeper for women of color, who are up against multiple systemic barriers at once. Startups serving diverse communities also face challenges building credibility with VCs unfamiliar with the needs of those populations. Because venture capital’s makeup is so homogenous, founders, especially social entrepreneurs, often encounter misconceptions among VCs about communities they are unfamiliar with, as well as what they deem innovative or profitable based on previous success stories. However, things are starting to change. Initiatives supporting diverse founders via funding, networks, programming and services are becoming more prominent. Less traditional funding avenues are also a great alternative, allowing anyone who believes in you and your idea to invest. Future Foundries is here to bridge this gap, connecting you to the opportunities you need to succeed. We’re building a space to share resources, connections, and advice that have helped founders along the way - and we need your help!
