What use is there for talking about goal setting when there’s no vehicle for tracking and sticking to your goals?

Many investors young and old would like to begin thinking about paying down debt, growing their net worth, and saving for retirement, yet many do not know where to start. A plethora of platforms purport to fulfill this need, but only Futurance provides personalized long-term investment plans along with curated investment education and accountability mechanisms. Designed with new investors in mind at all times, Futurance gently eases users into the often fraught world of financial planning and investing.

What it does

Upon your first login, Futurance will get to know you by asking where you are now in your financial journey, where you hope to be in the future, and what kinds of investments you're interested in making. Our users' personal information is never stored on our servers and is housed securely on the user's device. After completing the onboarding process, users can sit back, relax, and watch as their financial future is mapped out for them in a matter of seconds. At any time, our users have the ability to review their plan and access educational materials curated to ensure beginners are ready for the journey that lies ahead.

How we built it

We built Futurance using Swift in Xcode. The UI was created using Interface Builder.

Challenges we ran into and what we learned

Where to begin... from navigating git to familiarizing ourselves with the charms of UIKit, we learned a lot about developing in a team and creating a user-oriented product. For both of us, this was an experience unlike anything we've done in the classroom; the whole enterprise not only demands correctness of code, but also placing yourself in the mind of the user and making the UI and UX as intuitive as possible.
