Inspiration
As students, we know how hard the current job market is. In addition, through our surveys, we found that most students felt they were unprepared for the interview process. Did you know that :
- 76% of resume rejections are due to unprofessional email addresses.
- 80% of the job offers are not posted online.
- Job interviews last between 45 minutes and 1 hour.
- 85% of people lie on their resumes.
- You only have 7 seconds to make a good first impression
- Millennials and Gen Zs will make 75% of the global workforce by 2025.
- The current unemployment rate in the US is 10.2%. We wanted to change that.
What it does
Preparing students for the future of interviews by getting them adjusted to the online interview setting, and giving them a database of questions to practise with. This web app helps with evening out the gap in employment by preparing especially marginalized individuals who might not have the resources to go through career development training/who do not have access to advisors who will help them prepare throughout the recruitment process.
How it works: There are a series of questions based on the job category the user chooses (engineer, designer, writer... etc) and have to give an answer. The user will then be able to vocalise their answer to the question and see what they responded after. The site will then determine the rate of success of the answer based on the answer given, compared based on a set of factors such as job description, the industry-standard vocabulary, etc.,
We compare the user's answer to the best answer in the array by finding the degree of similarity between two strings, based on Dice's Coefficient, which is mostly better than Levenshtein distance.
We also know this website would be very versatile and easy to add addons with, such as a job searching area, a place for users to learn about the types of skills that jobs they are seeking for are asking for, and a comprehensive database with the questions and types of example answers that employers might be looking for.
How we built it
HTML, CSS, Javascript, React, ChakraDB, Firebase, assembly ai, npmjs
Challenges we ran into
Time zone, One member had a personal emergency and some had other commitments, however, we were able to work together as a team and communicate throughout the weekend to ensure that we were able to make the most of what we were able to.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of being able to complete what we did with the time we were given and to have been able to collaborate and work together as a team successfully. It was also a great opportunity to learn more about firebase, as well as chakra, and react.
What we learned
It was also a great opportunity to learn more about firebase, as well as chakra, and react. We also learn more about the interview process and what candidates can do to better position themselves.
What's next for Futerview
We would love to add additional features, such as addons like a job searching area, a place for users to learn about the types of skills that jobs they are seeking are asking for, and a comprehensive database with the questions and types of example answers that employers might be looking for.
