Inspiration

My main marketing argument is that Free Geek should focus its marketing on high school students and other young people interested in technology. Many students need volunteer hours for graduation and are looking for opportunities that can also help them gain experience. Students taking computer science, technology, and other STEM courses are an especially strong audience because their interests already connect with Free Geek's focus on technology, digital skills, and sustainability.

Instead of relying only on posters or general advertising, Free Geek should market directly through schools by working with Student Services, online classrooms, and technology teachers. This would allow Free Geek to reach a specific group of people who are already interested in its mission. In this way, marketing is not simply about making people aware of Free Geek; it is about connecting Free Geek with a community that already has reasons to get involved. The marketing of these opportunities should target high school students, who may have more available time than their adult counterparts

What it does

I have decided to write Python code that allows users to apply for a knowledge and repair associate and volunteer to help out Free Geek. Previously, I stated that students will greatly benefit from an organization like Free Geek Toronto. Therefore, this code is especially found on my site, which is only for students in the GTA.

How I built

It used my previous knowledge of computer science from a course I am currently taking. I also often asked my classmates questions about coding to gain more insight and learn from their knowledge. I am very curious about what other people know, so collaborating with my classmates helped me understand different perspectives and techniques on coding.

Challenges I ran into

I was often very tired after school and didn't feel like coding all night. However, I pushed myself to continue by reminding myself that I really wanted to gain more insight into the coding and digital technology world, which I could see myself working in in the future. I also struggled with putting all my ideas together because I usually let my mind wander, and that is when many of my best ideas come to me. Sometimes, I would have many different ideas and try to combine them all at once. When turning my writing into my video script, I tried very hard to make it cohesive and clear for the viewer, and I think I did a good job with it.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud of my determination. I am not always motivated to work on a project with such a short deadline, but I persevered and continued working even when I was tired or frustrated. I am also proud of my code. As a beginner, I found it quite complicated, and I am glad that I challenged myself with something outside of my comfort zone and usual routine. This project helped me push myself to learn more about coding and technology.

What I learned

I learned how to make a Google Site as well as using Python's newer versions rather than the older versions I use at school. This was quite challenging because i was unable to embed my code into Google Sites because of the deadline approaching. Furthermore, I learned how to embed a website into Python. This was actually very fun, and I'm glad I did it. I believe the skills I learned can help me in future projects as well as in class.

What's next for FUSE

For the future of FUSE, I would like to continue developing my coding skills and learn more about how technology can be used to solve medical related problems. This is because I am also interested in medicine and health. I believe the both of them go hand in hand and can further benefit one another if used correctly.I would also like to improve knowledge of code by taking part in more events and taking additional courses. I hope I can continue challenging myself with projects that combine technology, competition and my future goals
