Inspiration
As pet owners, we often find ourselves wondering: “Can my dog eat this?”, “Is my cat drinking enough water?”, or “Why is my pet acting weird today?”. With so many questions and scattered resources, we wanted to create a one-stop solution for pet care—something that combines AI-powered insights, health tracking, and a thriving pet-loving community. That’s how TailWise was born!

What it does
TailWise is an all-in-one pet companion web app that helps pet owners make informed decisions about their furry friends. Key features include: 🐾 Can My Pet Eat This? – AI-powered food safety checker for pets. 💖 Health Monitoring Dashboard – Tracks steps, hydration, sleep, heart rate, and overall wellness. 📸 AI-Powered Diagnosis – Upload pet photos/videos for AI-assisted health analysis. 🐶 Social Hub – A community where pet owners can share cute moments, tips, and stories. 📅 Vaccination & Care Reminders – Never miss an important vet visit or shot. 🔍 Pet Adoption & Essential Services – find all the services at one place and even adopt the perfect pet based on preferences. 🛒Shopping Supplies - find all the food, toys and other items at one place for your furry friend.
How we built it
We used React.js for the front end, Python/Fast api for the back end. AI-driven features leverage LLMs for text-based food safety recommendations, we have used gemini-api for that.
Challenges we ran into
How difficult it is to choose a perfect prompt and control how our LLMs behave. Deployment of two separate services vercel was also a pain. How difficult it is to construct an accurate enough model for image/video analysis for diseases diagnostic, seems simple but when it comes to pets we love the accuracy matters.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our signature feature "Pawssible Bites" which using LLM to answer your doubts of whether you can feed you pet safely or is there some kind of danger or allergies involved. This is such an essential feature for pet lovers.
What we learned
Building a scalable AI system for pet care requires high-quality data and continuous improvement. User engagement is key—pet owners love fun, meme-worthy interactions in the app. Balancing real-time health tracking with privacy and data security will be very crucial going forward.
What's next for TailWise
- We plan on integrating health tracking APIs for wearable pet devices.
- Adding more AI features that uses machine learning models for image/video analysis to diagnose pets for common diseases.
- Using cloud-based storage for user-generated content on social hub.
