Inspiration
We started Furious George, The Duck, as a fun time with friends, making a humorous way to liven up people’s day-to-day lives. As the project progressed, we thought of the bigger picture, and realized we both share a struggle with a family who has cognitive decline. Furious George aspires to be a tailored solution for those who are cognitively impaired, lonely, and/or ultimately depressed. There is also capability for it to be used with a younger audience, bringing educational content to life, such as picture books and written materials.
What it does
Interacts and communicates with the user as if it were a real-life companion, in real time.
How we built it
Challenges we ran into
Accomplishments that we're proud of
No arduino. Viva La C. Lots of new friends!!
What we learned
There are so many cool things we could do with George, but not enough time [at the hackathon]. Therefore, there is a lot of potential with this project, and could use it for many things beyond this weekend.
What's next for Furious George, The Duck
Better understand what exactly would stimulate those with Alzheimer's Dementia. (Laughter? Talking in general? etc.) Tailor a persona for educational purposes (accompany youth as they read [book companion/reader], and learn).
