Inspiration

Fungy Sudoku was born from a simple idea: to make the classic, quiet Sudoku come alive. We wanted to bring motion, tension, and playfulness into a game known for its solitude — turning logic into action. And make players compete on a shared grid.

What it does

In Fungy Sudoku, numbers turn into colorful mushrooms. Players plant different colors to fill the grid — no color repeats in each row, column, and block. On a shared multiplayer board, everyone races for points: whoever completes a unit first takes the bonus. You might plant two, but if another player finishes the line, they score. You can shovel others’ mushrooms or use mischief items to stall rivals.

How we built it

Fungy Sudoku builds on the core logic of the other horizon game we've been working on-Fungy Boom, adapting its:

  • Grid validation and conflict-checking algorithms
  • Planting, shovel and camera mechanics
  • Multiplayer synchronization layer for real-time score competition

Challenges we ran into

  • Game design: ensure fairness and responsive feedback
  • The multiplayer scoring system without time limits
  • Making the rules instantly clear

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Turned the traditional puzzle game into a lively, shared experience
  • Created a world that feels playful and fun with vivid visual and sound feedback
  • A connected Fungy ecosystem, where experiences, rewards, and player progress intertwine across multiple games

What we learned

Balance in multiplayer Sudoku isn’t about symmetry — it’s about giving everyone a fair chance to feel clever.

What's next for Fungy Sudoku

  • Harder puzzles (including 9×9 grids)
  • Time challenge mode for speed competition
  • Multiplayer items
    • Cage: freeze another player’s move temporarily
    • Spray: alter mushroom colors to disrupt strategies
  • Fungy XP system integration
    • Earn XP, level up, and unlock mushroom cap decorations
    • Connect score progression with Fungy Boom for a shared player ecosystem
