Inspiration
Coming from different backgrounds our team realized the education disparity in the US is vast and needs proper funding.
What it does
Shows how much money to allocate to each school district based on two different metrics given a funding amount.
How we built it
We used a database that provides funding for school districts in each state and compared it to what proper funding should look like. We calculated the funding gaps and created an algorithm that allocated funds from there. Finally, we visualized our data using bar charts on streamlit.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing the equations presented a challenge as we aimed to accurately represent school districts of varying sizes and ensure fair allocation based on the chosen metric.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The code works and is unbiased. Our code helps make a difference in the world
What we learned
Through this project, we gained insight into how our zip code influences the quality of education we receive, shedding light on systemic issues within our education system. According to 2020 data, the nationwide education funding gap stands at approximately $100 billion, with California accounting for nearly 14% of this deficit.
What's next for Funding Futures
We look forward to raising capital and funding our future.
