Inspiration
A certain keynote speaker at the WIEHack brought in light the statistics regarding self help groups and made me wonder about: How might we make micro-financing institutions like Self Help Groups independent and affordable (explicitly for women)?
What it does
It is a decentralized capital pooling system validated using Aadhar. It does the following: Zero interest rates (no predatory money lenders required), Automated book keeping by smart contracts (rural India doesn’t trust banks), Anonymity ensures equality (casteism eradicated), Members need to validate others - credibility ensured without a credit score, Peer pressure introduced if not paid.
How we built it
We used solidity to deploy smart contracts. Also, we used metamask (ropsten testnet) with web3.js as our web framework. We used Aadhar.js (a self built API) to validate Aadhar Numbers to account for each member. The software can be tested on truffle, GUI or Remix IDE.
Challenges we ran into
From knowing nothing about self help groups to working on a product for them - it was a journey full of challenges when it comes to understanding the problems of Rural India. Working with metamask with almost no internet was also a HUGE challenge. Another issue was working with the tokens in metamask.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Sticking to the plan and coming with a satisfactory output. We able to carry out test transactions succesfully.
What we learned
The use of Aadhar ID validations. An integral part of an Indian's life, it can soon be made into a counterpart of an IP address for a human. We also learnt the use of blockchain in an efficient manner. Deploying smart contracts isn't as easy as it sounds in theory.
What's next for Fundfluent
Integration of Google Translate's API. We're keen on getting our project live !
