Inspiration

We noticed the challenges that small businesses and entrepreneurs face in securing funding, especially in local communities. Inspired by the SharkTank concept, our app simplifies pitching, networking, and funding for local businesses and startups while fostering community-driven innovation. Additionally, social media apps like TikTok showed us the power of engaging, scroll-and-swipe-based interfaces, and we wanted to apply that addictive interaction to something meaningful—empowering people to discover, support, and invest in innovative ideas.

What it does

Fund 'em All is a platform where entrepreneurs can showcase their business ideas through short pitches, and investors can scroll through a curated feed of opportunities. Users can connect, chat, and make funding decisions—all in a fun, intuitive, and community-focused app.

How we built it

We developed Fund 'em All using:

  • Frontend: React.js for a smooth, cross-platform experience.
  • Backend: Node.js and Express.js to handle authentication, data storage, and messaging.
  • Prototyping: Designed UI/UX workflows using Figma to ensure an intuitive user experience.

Challenges we ran into

  • Ensuring seamless scrolling while keeping the app lightweight and responsive.
  • Keeping the frontend UI synchronized with backend data, such as removing pitches after bookmarking or messaging.
  • Ensuring that we are merging the branches of our version control correctly.
  • Crafting an intuitive UI that dynamically adapts based on the user’s role (shark or pitcher) and their current state (logged in or not).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We made the project--starting with an initial MVP and prototyping in Figma, to front-end and back-end implementation-- within 24 hours!!!
  • Networked with peers and mentors throughout the hackathon
  • Building a platform that fosters community and helps small businesses thrive.
  • Balancing a visually engaging feed with a professional tone for business pitches.

What we learned

  • The importance of balancing usability with functionality to cater to diverse user groups.
  • How small UI/UX tweaks can dramatically impact user engagement.
  • The significance of secure data handling and clear communication between users.
  • The challenges of integrating real-time interactions in a scalable application.

What's next for Fund 'em All

  • Introducing premium features like detailed analytics for businesses and advanced filters for investors.
  • Expanding the platform to include crowdfunding and partnership opportunities.
  • Building a strong onboarding process to educate first-time users about the platform.
  • We could also expand our range such that we could accommodate hackathon projects as well.
  • Partnering with local communities and organizations to amplify outreach and impact.
