đź’ˇ Inspiration

I’m a nurse, a mom, elder millennial, and someone who’s spent a lot of time—and money—trying to feel better. Along the way, I discovered functional health: a root-cause, data-driven approach to optimizing well-being. It was transformative—but it was also expensive, confusing, and often inaccessible.

Mid Mid Life was born from that frustration. What if we could make the benefits of functional health—especially nutrition guidance based on labs—available to everyone?

đź›  What it does

Mid Mid Life is a web app that helps people turn standard lab results into meaningful, personalized nutrition support. Users upload their labs and receive simple, actionable insights—like which nutrients they might be low in even if they’re technically “in range”—plus food suggestions and (in the future) supplement options that support optimization.

The app focuses on helping people close the gap between “normal” and optimal, so they can feel more energetic, clear-headed, and resilient through midlife and beyond.

🔧 How we built it

I used Bolt.new to build the entire front-end—no technical background, no dev team. Just vibe-coding, persistence, and a lot of curiosity.

I integrated:

  • A weekly meal planner
  • Nutrition suggestions based on biomarkers
  • Educational information where it matters
  • A growing library of food recommendations

All backed by clinically researched guidelines and a UI designed for anyone!

🧱 Challenges we ran into

  • Translating complex lab data into clear, user-friendly recommendations.
  • Creating interactivity like question asking, meal planning, and lab tracking, without breaking functionality.
  • Designing for both usability and credibility—health tools need to be intuitive and trustworthy.
  • And, of course, figuring out how to do all of this without writing full-stack code. No technical expertise here, just LOTS of screenshots, asking AI models, and bootstrapping.

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a fully functional, beautifully branded web app from scratch with zero engineering background. This was an incredible experience!
  • Created a system that demystifies lab results and helps people take action—not just read numbers.
  • Launched a platform that can be used directly by users, but also by health coaches and functional medicine practitioners alike.

📚 What we learned

  • Simplicity wins. Users don’t want more data—they want clearer direction. We have so much data but much of it is hard to act on.
  • The barrier to launching powerful digital health tools is lower than ever (thanks, Bolt).
  • The future of health isn’t just reactive care—it’s proactive, personalized, and rooted in accessible data interpretation.

🚀 What's next for Mid Mid-Life

  • Add Google Health and Apple Health, as well as “take a photo of labs” integration for seamless lab syncing
  • Expand lab-to-nutrition mapping for more biomarkers
  • Build a curated supplement marketplace and grocery list functionality
  • Offer provider and health coach portals, and look into direct provider support from the web app
  • Launch premium features behind a paywall for deeper personalization

I believe Mid Mid Life can change how millions of people understand and optimize their health—starting with the labs they already have.
