Inspiration

The inspiration for Funance came from recognizing that traditional money-saving apps often become monotonous and lose users' interest over time. The goal was to redefine the saving experience by making it engaging and enjoyable, harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to captivate users and encourage consistent saving habits.

What it does

Funance transforms the mundane task of saving money into a fun and engaging activity. Users receive daily AI-generated prompts called "intriguers," which are linked to collectible points corresponding to specified dollar amounts. As users collect points, they save money and move closer to their financial goals. The app also personalizes these prompts based on user preferences, ensuring each one is relevant and engaging. Additionally, visually appealing images accompany the text prompts to further motivate users.

How we built it

Funance is a comprehensive mobile application built over React Native with Zustand and Django. The app leverages the advantages of AI by employing a fine-tuned version of Google’s T5 base model for generating intriguing prompts. The app's personalized recommendations are driven by custom recommender systems utilizing algorithms to analyze user preferences and behaviors in real-time. Visuals accompanying the text prompts are generated using the Stable Diffusion model. The business model includes gamification elements like streaks, badges, and leaderboards to foster engagement and competition.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges included ensuring the AI-generated prompts were consistently engaging and relevant, integrating the visual content seamlessly with text prompts, and maintaining user interest over long periods. Developing an effective recommender system to personalize the experience also posed significant challenges - and most importantly, TO CONVINCE PEOPLE OF WHAT WE ARE BUILDING

What we learned

Throughout the development of Funance, we learned the importance of personalization in maintaining user interest and the impact of visually appealing content in motivating users. We also gained insights into the challenges and rewards of integrating advanced AI technologies into a consumer-facing application.

What's next for Funance

Future plans for Funance include expanding its ecosystem by integrating with discounts and cashback offers, mutual funds, and ETFs, and forming partnerships with financial institutions.
