As a mum of a 5 year old and 3 year old, I noticed how much young children identified with gender stereotypes. For instance, girls aren't as strong as boys etc. Further, my research proved that a strong association with gender roles has an impact on their academic performance. University of Washington and NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION (NiE) study in Singaporean primary school children has shown that the perception that boys are better at mathematics affects how girls perform in the subject. The study adds fresh insight about stereotypes that boys have a better affinity for math than girls. As parents and teachers how do we inspire to have a wholesome view of these issues?

It is simple Quiz style and interactive. The key concept is to supply fun facts (which expose them new ideas) and provide resources for further reference.

I built it using mit app inventor.

I do not have prior coding experience so stuff was new. However, the Saturday sessions and Nitya's expertise were helpful.

I am glad that the app is functional and Aarav (my son) loves it!

I can learn new subjects. The interaction and peer learning were motivating.

What's next for Fun Facts with Snoopy

I would like this app to have a Know Your User page. The purpose of this page is to record user data such as sex, age, schooling etc. I would also include questions such as

  1. Do you go to school?
  2. Do you think boys are stronger/smarter than girls?
  3. Do you think girls enjoy reading books or math?
  4. Who is your main caregiver? Mommy/Daddy
  5. Would you like to see Daddy helping out in household chores/parenting responsibilities? These statistics should be shown to the user in a simple graph to see the overall trend. Also, this data can be used for further research in gender identity and stereotypes. I would like to customize my app in various languages to share it in kindergarten and schools across ASEAN.
