Working parents should not have to become policy experts to access support. In Taiwan, government subsidies, childcare information, and employer benefits are scattered across different websites and processes. We were inspired by proactive public-service platforms that bring family support into one place. FUMU connects that civic-tech approach with workplace benefits, helping parents navigate both public and corporate support.

What it does FUMU is a bilingual English and Traditional Chinese benefits navigator for Taiwan’s working parents. Parents enter household details to explore estimated government support alongside employer perks. Clickable benefit cards reveal eligibility guidance, required documents, application instructions, and official links. Parents can save checklists, track their own progress, explore childcare listings and alerts, and compare family-friendly employers. An AI advisor answers questions about a listed benefit using the parent’s circumstances.

FUMU provides guidance—not official eligibility decisions or application submission. Current amounts and sample listings require verification.

How we built it We built FUMU with Lovable, React, and TanStack Start, using Lovable Cloud for accounts and saved information. We separated benefit calculations into testable rules and created reusable application guides to keep instructions consistent. Lovable AI Gateway powers tailored benefit explanations. We used official Taiwan government guidance for application links and identified relevant open-data sources; live dataset integration is still a next step.

Challenges we ran into The biggest challenge was turning fragmented policies into clear, actionable guidance without overstating eligibility. Requirements vary by programme and location, and government information can become outdated. We also had to distinguish personal progress tracking from official approval and fit government and employer support into one understandable experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of Within the hackathon’s short build window, we created a working bilingual prototype—not just a concept. Parents can adjust household details, explore support estimates, open application guides, and ask tailored questions. We are especially proud of making benefit results actionable: each guide connects parents to documents and application destinations rather than stopping at a number.

What we learned A calculator is only the beginning. Parents also need to know where to apply, what to prepare, and what happens next. We learned that trustworthy civic technology depends on transparent sources, clear limitations, privacy, and maintained information—not simply more features.

What's next for FUMU - Flexible Urturing Mindful Unity Our next priority is integrating real Taiwan open datasets and verifying benefit rules with current official sources. We plan to show source dates, strengthen privacy safeguards, and replace demo employer access with verified HR participation. We also want to test FUMU with working parents and pilot it with employers, measuring whether it helps families find relevant support and complete application preparation.
