Inspiration
Artificial intelligence has transformed how we work, but businesses still operate across dozens of disconnected applications. Teams switch between AI assistants, project management tools, document editors, communication platforms, finance software, development tools, and marketing platforms just to move a single idea forward.
While AI has become increasingly intelligent, it still behaves mostly as an assistant waiting for instructions rather than as an organization capable of planning and executing work together.
I wanted to challenge that idea: What if every business could have its own AI Headquarters?
That question became HQ.
Instead of building another chatbot or collection of AI agents, I set out to build an AI Operating System powered by Google's Gemini models that helps transform an idea into a fully operating business—from planning and execution to development, deployment, marketing, operations, and growth—all within one intelligent platform.
What it does
HQ is built around the structure of a real organization.
Every new organization starts with five permanent AI executives powered by Gemini that form its leadership team:
- Asad — AI Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
- Teema — AI Operations Director
- Legal & Compliance Director
- Human Resources Director
- Intelligence Director (Public & Organizational Intelligence)
These executives coordinate every mission, make strategic decisions, and ensure work moves efficiently across the organization.
When additional expertise is needed, organizations simply install specialized AI departments from the HQ Marketplace (Finance, Marketing, Software Development, Sales, Customer Support, Accounting, etc.), allowing every organization to build an AI workforce tailored to its needs.
Instead of managing multiple AI tools and business software, users simply describe what they want to achieve. HQ's CEO Reasoner decomposes the goal, assembles the right departments, coordinates execution via Google Gemini APIs, generates deliverables, tracks execution logs in real-time, and recommends the next best actions from a single conversational headquarters.
The vision is simple: Turn any idea into a fully operating business—without leaving HQ.
How I built it
I designed HQ as a modular AI Operating System rather than a traditional AI assistant.
- AI Gateway & Gemini Integration: The core orchestration layer connects directly to Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite API (
generativelanguage.googleapis.com) via a custom NestJS AI Gateway (apps/api). It manages structured prompt generation, token consumption tracking, latency monitoring, and multi-agent failover retries. - Frontend & Operations Dashboard: Built with Next.js 16, React 19, and Tailwind CSS (
apps/webandapps/admin), providing founders with real-time auditability of executive agent execution logs. - Mobile Client: Developed a cross-platform mobile client using Expo Router (
mobile/) to give founders a "pocket executive board" for one-tap mission approvals. - Google Cloud Infrastructure: Deployed containerized services live on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) across production domains (
hq.netify.ng,api.hq.netify.ng,netify.hq.admin.ng).
As a solo developer, I designed the product architecture, user experience, frontend, NestJS backend, AI orchestration, and GCP deployment strategy while keeping the platform scalable, modular, and enterprise-ready.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge wasn't building AI—it was designing an entirely new way for people to interact with AI.
Most AI products are centered around conversations with a single assistant. HQ required designing an experience where multiple AI executives collaborate transparently without overwhelming the user.
Managing dynamic multi-agent execution while maintaining strict quota and latency standards required building a dedicated AI Gateway module to track real-time LLM token usage and latency.
Building this vision as a solo developer meant balancing product design, architecture, engineering, and user experience throughout the entire development process.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Creating a New Category: Introducing an AI Operating System where organizations are managed by permanent executive leadership (Asad, Teema, Legal, HR, Intelligence) that expands through installable AI departments.
- Production Deployment on Google Cloud: Successfully shipping containerized microservices live on GCP with full execution telemetry and token monitoring.
- Gemini Multi-Agent Orchestration: Seamlessly orchestrating Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite models across complex multi-step executive missions.
What I learned
Building HQ taught me that the future of AI isn't simply smarter assistants—it's smarter organizations.
Organizations don't want dozens of disconnected AI tools. They want one intelligent system that understands their business, coordinates specialized expertise, remembers context, and helps transform ideas into measurable outcomes.
Most importantly, I learned that breakthrough AI products are defined as much by thoughtful user experience as by technical capability.
What's next for HQ
This hackathon is only the beginning.
The next step is evolving HQ into a production-ready AI Operating System that organizations can rely on every day:
- Expanding the HQ Marketplace with more specialized AI departments.
- Incorporating multimodal Gemini voice capabilities for voice-first executive briefings.
- Deepening integrations with external business APIs (Stripe, GitHub, HubSpot).
My long-term vision is for HQ to become the digital headquarters where organizations can build, operate, and grow their entire business from one intelligent platform.
