Inspiration

Talent is everywhere, but career access is often locked behind private texts and family referrals. We built this because a student shouldn't need the right last name just to figure out their first step

What it does

We turn a school's hidden relationships into shared infrastructure so anyone can map out their future. Grit lets you find alumni who started exactly where you are, helps you draft a respectful introduction, and builds your resume into credible proof.

Discover

This feature shows you the actual, plausible jobs current students can land based on the historical paths of previous alumni. By filtering for people with similar backgrounds, you can see exactly how they navigated their early careers and emulate their next steps.

Resume Studio

The app reads your resume and compares it with alumni data to point out the missing skills that successful grads actually used. It turns your static document into a living record, letting you review and accept AI-proposed edits while maintaining total control over the final PDF.

How we built it

We combined a student's real context, like their coursework and projects, with actual alumni data showing first roles and skill patterns. Then, we used the Gemini API to analyze those career transitions and explain the exact rationale behind every suggested resume edit.

Challenges we ran into

Real data is messy, so we were making sure unknown career outcomes stayed visible so we didn't accidentally skew reality. Parsing resumes was another massive headache, because we had to build one system that could read different file types without ruining the original document.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built something that actually facilitates the human connections that can change the trajectory of someone's next five years. Instead of just recommending jobs, we gave students the tools to break out of their immediate circles and meet people based on shared experiences.

What we learned

We learned that the very first career opportunity almost always arrives privately. However, we also saw that combining data with a student’s actual context can completely demystify the unwritten rules of getting hired.

What's next for Grit

We want to integrate this with real university systems to track how career outcomes shift over time while fiercely protecting student privacy. Eventually, we will add coursework comparisons so students can map their class choices directly to future career possibilities.
