Inspiration
We were inspired by the fact that people who are new to cooking dont know what fruit/vegetable is what. With our app we hope to create an outlet to learn cooking even though they might not know a few styff. My app also tells you the benefits of each fruit/vegetable. It tells you how it help the environment and your own health.
What it does
AR app that scans different fruits and vegetables, and identifies what they are. We have 2 main targets/purposes; Help with cooking: Noobies in cooking can use the app to learn what fruit/vegetable they are looking at. Education-Learning: People can interactively learn about the benefits of fruits and vegetables. The app tells you the benefits of each fruit/vegetable.
How we built it
First, we collected data of different fruits and vegetables, their name, and definition and found the benefits of each fruit and vegetable. We then created a camera button, which allows the user to use their phone camera to scan. Then we created a scan button that allows you to scan the picture you took. After that we created a community page on DeSo so that if there is any bug they can directly tag us and report the bug.
Challenges we ran into
We had a challenging start it was so hard to get 100 - 200 pictures of each fruit so that the AI can be trained to recognize what is what. Sometimes my computer can't handle a lot of work in android studio and it turns off for 15-20 min.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of successfully creating a functional camera button, as well as being able to fully prototype our app. And I am very proud that I created my first android application that fully works.
What we learned
We learned more about the java language overall as well as learning how to develop an android app. We learned how to successfully create a functional camera button, as well as an AI that recognizes the fruits and vegetables..
What's next for FruVeg Explorer
We hope to add more data to our AI. We hope that we can develop our app to recognize anything including a person or a tree.
